Global Entrepolis @ Singapore 2005

Today was the last day of the GES. Only attended yesterday and today networking session due to clashes with timetable for the first 2 days. Supposedly to be an interpreter for delegates for cannot converse in English but it turned out that everyone can communicate in English, so didn’t have to chance to do some translation but apart from that, I gained some experience to interact with a few delegates and also the opportunity to witness how delegates do business and seeking investments. The delegates were also pretty interesting to observe; there are the serious type, business-like type, “kan cheong” spider type, very sociable type, initially-thought-you-are-a-delegate-but-cannot-be-bothered-with-you-when-found-out-you-are-only-a-student type, etc.

We are allowed to see go the exhibition hall to view the booths set by entrepreneurs to attract potential venture capitalists. A number of the products were pretty interesting and innovative. One of them that caught my attention was a simulation business game. Still trying figure out how the game is been played as it looked pretty complex cos it involved Legos, a world map game board, wooden blocks, PDAs, auctioning, etc.

We were also given the privilege to attend few of the conferences and it was really an eye opener for me. Instead of the normal seminar style, the conference that I attended was held in a ballroom (around 250 pax) whereby all the delegates sat together at a table for about 8 persons. I was totally awed when I went in to the ballroom as everyone was in their business wear and only I was wearing a black t-shirt (cos the organizer said it was okay to wear t-shirt, so long it was black). Scanned the area quickly and immediately dashed to the table whereby 2 other students were sitting at so that I would not have to sit with the delegates and looked so “outstanding” as the only student at the table. The conference that I attended was on “Technology and Its Impact in the Future” and it was quite insightful and the presentation was professional, only if I can do that in my own presentation… wow… haha…

Think it was a good experience, so looking forward to participate in GES again next year if possible. ^_^
